From 1 June 2016 the criteria for accepting non-default cavity wall U-values in ECO submissions was tightened up. Non-default U-values higher than a pre-determined threshold will either have to be demonstrated by testing, or by reference to original design data, or be calculated or verified by a competent person registered with the BBA/TIMSA U-value competency scheme.
Our briefing note outlines the changes and explains how JPA TL can assist with software and training. Click here for the briefing note and more information.
All EPCs for new dwellings in Scotland must now be submitted to the register in SAP 2012 format.
This came into effect on 20 March 2016.
For calculations created in SAP 2012 there will be no issues in lodging an EPC, but any SAP 2009 calculations to be lodged on or after 20th March will have to be converted to SAP 2012 before lodgement. Technical note 2016/02 gives more details on the change and on the conversion process.
We have been carrying out extensive testing in association with the Energy Saving Trust (which maintains the EPC register) to ensure that JPA Designer is fully compatible with the new format. However, as a change in the lodgement system can introduce unexpected issues, we recommend assessors lodge all completed projects before the changeover date.
Note that final 'as-built' SAP submissions for building warrants granted on the basis of SAP 2009 calculations should still be carried out using SAP 2009, even though the EPC lodgement requires SAP 2012.
We are pleased to announce the JPA Designer SAP 2012 (9.92) module was approved by BRE for compliance calculations to section 6 of the Scottish Building Standards 2015. Follow the link below to see the BRE approved software listing.
The SAP 2012 module in JPA Designer 6.03a1 and above should be used for warrant submissions after 1 October 2015 (submissions made before then should still be made using SAP 2009 (9.90)).
The SAP 2012 module should also be used for compliance calculations and EPC lodgements in England and in Wales. (Users in Nothern Ireland should continue to use SAP 2009 (9.90) for new buildings).
Technical Note 2014/01 gives a brief overview of the new SAP 2012, while Technical Note 2014/3 summarises other recent changes to JPA Designer.
When lodging, ensure you request a v17 EPC for this dwelling. V15 EPC's will no longer lodge to Landmark.
