JPA Designer SAP 9.92 Version 6.01a1 Build 003 and above is approved for lodging EPC's in England.

JPA Designer SAP 9.90 Version 5.04a1 and above is approved by the BRE for calculations and for EPC's in Wales and Northern Ireland.

JPA Designer SAP version 9.92 can be used to demonstrate compliance with Approved Document L1a (England). JPA Designer SAP version 9.90 can be used to demonstrate compliance with Approved Document L1a (Wales), Building Standards section 6 (Scotland) and Technical Booklet F1 (Northern Ireland).

Recent testing of the JPA Designer SAP module by BRE has identified an issue with the treatment of heat losses resulting from water heating by some combi boilers. As a result we have revised the program and from Version 5.04a3 Build 007 the results for combi-losses are correct.

This may affect some existing calculations and return a worse result. New projects should use build 007 onwards, but we would suggest that projects which already have building control approval - or are close to that point - should continue under build 004 or earlier.

Issuing EPCs with JPA Designer - IMPORTANT

On 31 October 2012 revised arrangements for issuing Energy Performance Certificates came into effect in Northern Ireland

There are changes to:
• the data set used for lodgement. This will now be based on SAP 2009 (V9.90).
• the SAP calculation methodology for EPCs
• the arrangements for retrieving EPCs once they have been lodged.

JPA Designer has been updated to implement those changes and all users should be using version 5.04a1 and above. We have also revised our guide to lodging EPCs to account for the changes.
